Type 2 Diabetes
Children with diabetes are not as restricted in what they can eat as used to be the case. Eating at the same time every day helps to keep blood glucose levels steady. Depending on the insulin regimen, snacks between meals may be important. Significant exercise usually requires adjustments in eating or insulin dose. Children with diabetes can have sweet foods occasionally, so long as they are accounted for in the meal plan and insulin doses adjusted if needed. It is not necessary to give up any food item.
Your whole family will benefit from adopting healthy eating habits, such as choosing balanced meals that are lower in calories and fat and rich in vegetables, fruits, fish, lean meats and complex carbohydrates.
