Sample Meals with 45 or 75 grams of Carbohydrates

The Cleveland Clinic offers the following sample menus to help balance carbohydrate intake.

45-gram meal

  • 3 oz of meat/protein (chicken breast, grilled salmon, or slices of lean beef)
  • 2/3 cup of rice (30 g)
  • 1 cup of broccoli
  • salad with low-fat, low-carbohydrate dressing
  • 1 cup of low-fat milk OR a small roll or one slice of bread (15 g)
  • 75-gram breakfast

  • 4 pancakes (4-inch) (30 g)
  • 2 tablespoons regular syrup (30 g)
  • 3/4 cup of blueberries (15 g)
  • 75-gram meal

  • 1 1/2 cups of spaghetti (45 g) with 1/2 cup of sauce (15 g)
  • 2 meatballs
  • Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup of green beans
  • Salad with low-fat, low-carbohydrate dressing
  • 1-oz slice of garlic bread (15 g)
  • Water with a twist of lemon
