A New Foot Tip from NIH

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases has revised its series of booklets for people with diabetes. This new tip appears in the "Take Care of Your Feet for a Lifetime" booklet.

Keep the blood flowing to your feet:

  • Put your feet up when sitting.
  • Wiggle your toes and move your ankles up and down for five minutes, two or three times a day.
  • Don't cross your legs for long periods of time.
  • Don't smoke.

Improving blood flow to the feet may reduce foot problems, since poor blood flow is associated with loss of sensation and poor healing of foot infections.
