DASH Lowers Cholesterol, Too

The DASH eating plan, which has long been known to lower blood pressure, also significantly reduces cholesterol levels. DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.

A new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that people following the DASH eating plan reduced both total cholesterol and LDL ("bad") cholesterol significantly more than those with typical eating habits. They reduced total cholesterol by 13.7 mg/dL, or 7.3%, and their LDL levels by 10.7 mg/dL, or 9%.
