Nonfat ''Cooking'' Sprays - Not Just For Cooking

The makers of PAM, the leading nonfat cooking spray, point out that using it as a food ingredient cuts down on the amount of butter, margarine and oil used, reducing the amount of calories and fats added to a recipe. How much difference?

    Fat (g)   Calories
1-second spray of olive oil flavored PAM   0.7   7
1 tablespoon of oil   13.6   122

Try these suggestions for new ways to use these sprays:

  • Spray on potato wedges and bake them to create delicious no-fry French fries.
  • Spray uncooked meats prior to applying a dry rub/seasoning.
  • Lightly coat salad greens, for salad dressing.
  • Spray garlic flavored PAM* onto Italian bread for quick garlic bread.
  • When grilling vegetables like zucchini, squash, peppers or onions, spray them with PAM* and sprinkle with seasonings before grilling.
  • Coat cooked rice with Lemon Flavor Seasoning Spray for a different side dish with fish.
  • Spray sliced fruit with Lemon Flavor PAM* and grill on skewers for a low-fat dessert.

*Other nonfat cooking sprays may be substituted for PAM. Check labels to verify fat and calorie content.
