How To Avoid Heat-Related Problems

Whether you're out in the heat for work, pleasure, or exercise, there are some precautions you can take to decrease your chances of having any heat-related problems. They include:

  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Stay in cool, shaded areas when possible, or provide your own shade with a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Schedule outdoor activities and exercise during the coolest parts of the day, before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
  • Drink plenty of water, and keep it close at hand.
