Eat To Reduce Triglycerides

More attention is being paid to the role of high levels of triglycerides as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Triglycerides are a type of lipid that circulate in the bloodstream and are essential for good health. They come from dietary fat and are also produced in the liver from carbohydrates.

You can reduce triglycerides through lifestyle changes, particularly:

  • losing weight
  • reducing the saturated fats and cholesterol in your diet
  • decreasing your intake of foods high in sugar
  • eating more fiber-rich foods, fruits and vegetables
  • decreasing alcohol consumption
  • exercising

If these efforts do not succeed, then your doctor may prescribe medication to bring triglycerides under control.
