What Counts as a Serving, Anyway?

If you're struggling to get your 5 servings of fruit and vegetables every day, here's a quick reminder of serving sizes.

One serving =

  • 1 medium fruit
  • 1/2 cup of small or cut-up fruit
  • 3/4 cup of 100% juice
  • 1/4 cup of dried fruit
  • 1/2 cup of raw non-leafy or cooked vegetables
  • 1 cup raw leafy vegetables such as lettuce
  • 1/2 cup of cooked beans (pinto or kidney) or peas

As you can see, it doesn't take much to satisfy the 5-a-day guideline: a cup and a half of salad, a glass of juice, an apple, and a cooked vegetable - and you've done it.
