Will I have to take medications if I have high blood pressure?

For most people, the treatment of hypertension does involve taking blood pressure-lowering medications, but there are two situations in which this may not be necessary. First, if your pressure is only mildly elevated, it may be possible to control it with non-drug means such as weight loss, exercise, and restriction of alcohol and salt. Second, if you are one of the rare people with secondary hypertension, it may be curable by a procedure such as an angioplasty or surgery.
