Clinical Advisory Board

We proudly present our Clinical Advisory Board, a panel of physicians well known and respected for their teaching, clinical practice, research and publications in the field of diabetes.

David McCulloch, MD is board certified in Internal Medicine and a practicing Diabetologist at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound where he leads a clinical improvement team caring for over 18,000 diabetic patients in Western Washington.

Born in Scotland and educated at the University of Edinburgh, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, UK, F.R.C.P., 1991. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. and has authored numerous scientific articles in the area of diabetes.

Dr. McCulloch was a member of the Steering Committee of the National ADA diabetes recognition program, 1995-98, a member of the Technical Advisory Committee to the Diabetes Program, Centers for Disease Control, 1995-98, and is the Clinical Chair for Diabetes for the National Breakthrough Series on Chronic Illness, cosponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, 1998-present. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the British Diabetic Association, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and the International Diabetes Federation.

Rodney A. Lorenz, MD is a Professor and Interim Chairman of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.

Dr. Lorenz’s prior professional experience includes Director of Pediatric Endocrinology, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, 1989-1999, Medical Director of Nutrition Services, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, 1990-99, Associate Director of Diabetes Research and Training Center, Director of Demonstration and Education Component at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, 1979-99. Dr. Lorenz is a member of the Steering Committee and Liason to the Executive Committee of the National Diabetes Education Program, and the Chairman of the Council on Diabetes in Youth of the American Diabetes Association.

A nationally acclaimed authority on Pediatric Diabetes, Dr. Lorenz has authored over 60 abstracts, journal manuscripts, book chapters or monographs. In addition, he was a Principal Investigator of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, and co-author of multiple research reports. He was one of the principal developers of cutting edge educational programs for diabetes educators that are still in use: 'Effective Patient Teaching,' and 'Sugar is Not A Poison.'

Dr. Lorenz has served on multiple committees, editorial boards, and task forces at the American Diabetes Association, including the Council on Youth, the Task Force on National Standards for Patient Education Programs, the Technical Review Committee on Assessment of Glycemia, the Planning Committee, the Southern Regional Conference on Diabetes, the Professional Practice Committee, the Scientific Sessions Planning Committee, the Editorial Board of Diabetes Care, the Editorial Board of Clinical Diabetes, and the Editorial Board of Program Publications.

R. Keith Campbell, is a Professor and Associate Dean of Pharmacy Practice at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

Professor Campbell, is a certified Diabetes Educator and has contributed his diabetes expertise to multiple academic, public, and private programs. His prior professional experience includes Reviewer for the Scope of Practice for Diabetes Educators and the Standards of Practice for Diabetes Educators for the AADE, 1998-1999, editorial board member of Diabetes Interview, 1996, member of the International Working Group on the Clinical Management of Type II Diabetes by Bristol Myers Squibb, 1995, Board of Director of the American Diabetes Association, 1991-1994, Chairman of the Task Force on development of position statements for the American Association of Diabetes Educators, 1991-1992, Director of Continuing Education, College of Pharmacy at Washington State University, 1968-1997, and Board of Director of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, 1988-1991. Professor Campbell is currently a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration Endocrinology Advisory Panel.

Recognized nationally as one of the country's leading diabetes educators, Professor Campbell has received numerous awards, including Boehringer Mannheim/and Zitter Group Diabetes Disease Management Leadership Award, 1997, American Association of Diabetes Educators Distinguished Service Award, 1990, American Diabetes Association Outstanding Health Professional Educator in the Field of Diabetes, 1989, Washington State Pharmaceutical Association Pharmacist of the Year, 1976.

Professor Campbell has authored or coauthored numerous books, articles, and continuing education programs on diabetes. His recent publications include Diabetes and Medications (co-authored by John R. White) and Managing Your Diabetes (co-authored by Robert M. Anderson, Patricia Barr, Janice Betz, Betty Brackenridge).
