John Paul Foreyt, PhD
John Paul Foreyt, PhD, is a nationally recognized expert on how lifestyle and behavior affect obesity. He has served as principal investigator on major research grants funded by the National Institutes of Health on diet and weight loss. Dr. Foreyt currently serves as a professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
From 1991 to 1995, Dr. Foreyt served on the National Task Force on the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity, National Institutes of Health. From 1994 to 1995, he was a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee to Develop Criteria for Evaluating the Outcomes of Approaches to Prevent and Treat Obesity. Dr. Foreyt also served on the Expert Panel on the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Obesity in Adults at High Risk for Cardiovascular Disease, National Institutes of Health, NHLBI Obesity Education Initiative.
Dr. Foreyt served as principal investigator on a study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute on the effects of diet modification on heart disease risk and a major study on weight reduction for Mexican Americans. He currently is the principal investigator of a research project funded by the National Institutes of Health called the SHOW (Study of Health Outcomes of Weight Loss) trial.
Dr. Foreyt serves on the editorial boards of some of the nation’s most prestigious publications including the American Journal of Health Promotion, the Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Cognitive Therapy and Research. He also reviews manuscripts submitted to publications such as the Annals of Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Foreyt is a fellow of the Behavioral Therapy and Research Society, the Society of Behavioral Medicine and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research.
Fran Grossman, RD, MS, CDE, CDN
Fran C. Grossman, a Registered Dietitian and Nutritional consultant for many years, is an expert on weight reduction, fitness, diabetes, breast cancer, pregnancy, cardiovascular and renal diseases and women's issues. She is also a Certified Diabetes Educator.
Ms. Grossman serves as the nutritionist for the Integrative and Behavioral Cardiovascular Health Program of the Cardiovascular Institute of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is a personal and corporate nutrition consultant in private practice. Her prior professional experience includes Operations Manager of the Maternal Child Health Care Center at the Mount Sinai NYU Health System, Director of Nutrition Education and Supervisor of Clinical Nutrition at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Nutritionalk consultant, West Park Medical Group, and Renal Nutritionist for the renal Treatment Center at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Ms. Grossman lectures extensively in the New York area and consults to Fortune 500 companies on nutrition and other health issues. Considered one of New York's leading health and nutrition experts, her work has appeared in a diverse body of publications including medical textbooks and journals and women's magazines, and she frequently leads health and nutrition seminars and workshops throughout the New York area.
